Thunder hit the ice tonight

The Borderland Thunder will play their home-opener tonight at 7:30 p.m. at the Ice for Kids Arena against the K&A Golden Hawks.
The two-game series wraps up Saturday at 5 p.m.
The Thunder were able to stave off a late charge by the Golden Hawks there last Sunday, gaining a 5-4 victory after leading by three goals.
“I’m pretty excited, it’s going to be a big game,” defenceman Kurt Hogard, in his third year with the Thunder, said earlier this week.
“We’ve got to win as much as we can, and it’ll be especially good for the hometown to see the new team,” he added.
The Thunder earned three of four points in their season-opening road trip last weekend in Thunder Bay, which began with a 1-1 tie against the SIJHL defending champion Fort William First Nation North Stars.
“I think they got a taste of success and they’re excited about the home-opener, and we’re very excited about the 5 [p.m.] on Saturday because it’ll allow people to come to the game and give them time to do something afterwards,” said Thunder head coach Dave Allison.
“I think people are going to see an up-tempo, hard-working team that is very exciting to watch,” he added. “One of the things that we pride ourselves on is that we’ve always improved throughout the course of the year.
“It’s nice for people to come and have a look now and then gauge [us] each and every week, or each and every month, and you’ll enjoy the improvement from these players,” Allison remarked.
Second-year defenceman David Gooch also is very anxious for the home-opener and believes the 2004-05 edition is superior to last year’s squad.
“We’re really excited,” he said. “It’s our first home series. We have played no pre-season games at home, so we’re looking for a big crowd, and to impress the crowd and show them what we got this year.
“Our team this year is definitely better than we were last year,” he pledged.
