The Borderland Thunder came home with a 1-1-1 record from the Manitoba Junior Hockey League’s “showcase” tournament over the Thanksgiving weekend.
The Thunder, still undefeated (4-0-1) in SIJHL play, scored four unanswered goals to earn a 5-3 win over the Waywayseecappo Wolverines in their tourney opener Friday.
On Saturday, the Dauphin Kings tallied on a five-minute power play late in the game to salvage a 4-4 tie with the Thunder.
Borderland then fell 2-1 to the Portage Terriers—the MJHL’s top team—on Sunday.
The Thunder were the only team outside of the MJHL to have been invited to the tournament and the games the MJHL teams played against them counted in their standings.
The Thunder’s results did not count in the SIJHL standings.
Borderland returns to SIJHL action tonight when they host the Dryden Ice Dogs for the second-straight time, having beaten the visitors 6-3 here last Tuesday night.
Game time is 7:30 p.m. at the Ice for Kids Arena.
