While turkey was the featured menu item in most Thanksgiving feasts, the Borderland Thunder satisfied their appetite with a double serving of Hawk over the weekend.
Matt Alexander’s power-play goal in the third period was the difference in a 3-2 Thunder win Saturday night in Nipigon against the Feathermen Hawks in Superior International Junior Hockey League action.
Kevin Webb and Josh McAndrew also scored for the Thunder while Mathew Lesperance and Eric Robin replied for Nipigon.
Kyle Prystupa made it an even better holiday weekend Sunday afternoon, striking for two goals and two assists in a 7-3 Thunder win.
Matt Johnson added a goal and two assists while Chad Baldwin, Rob Scales, Drew Fisher, and Clayton Windigo also tallied for the Thunder (6-0-2).
Dennis Morrison, Brent Assinewai, and Brent Greene scored for the Hawks (1-7-1-1).
The Thunder lead the second-place Dryden Ice Dogs (6-2), who swept the Thunder Bay KC Bulldogs over the weekend, by two points atop the SIJHL standings.
The Bulldogs (4-2) visit the Ice for Kids Arena this Friday and Saturday to battle the Thunder in the first two of four-straight games between the two teams.
Game time is 7:30 both nights.
