Play continues to be fun to watch, and the competition is fierce, in the Fort Frances Men’s Basketball League.
In a closely-fought first half in Tuesday night’s opening game, Revco did a great job of shutting down RRFN scoring machine Sam Soderman by holding him to only seven points.
He broke out in the second half, however, and wound up with 21 points to lead RRFN to a 54-45 victory over Revco (2-4).
John Sivonen led Revco with 17 points, including four from beyond the arc.
Scoring was at a premium in the night’s second game between BDO and Arctic Cat, with only one of the 15 combined players notching more than 10 points.
That player was Kobi Ward, whose 11 points (which included five free throws) helped earn a 38-31 victory for Arctic Cat (4-2).
Wally Tabash had eight for winless BDO (0-6).
Then in a long-anticipated matchup between last season’s top scorers Josh Mastin and Soderman, it was Mastin and his Sunset Landscaping team (4-2) that prevailed with a 78-50 victory over RRFN (4-2).
The score doesn’t tell the whole story though, as the game and point total between the two stars almost was deadlocked until Soderman went down with an injury in the second half.
He still ended up with 20 points while Mastin put netted a season- and league-high 41.
Action resumes next Tuesday at Fort High with three games.
