Cooper Witherspoon finally got on the scoresheet while his team finally got in the win column.
The Fort Frances resident’s first goal of the week was one of three insurance markers for Team Hockey Northwestern Ontario in a 4-0 victory yesterday over Team Northern Ontario Hockey Association in the seventh-place game at the 2017 OHL Gold Cup in Kitchener.
Witherspoon, who spent this past season with the Thunder Bay Minor Midget ‘AAA’ Kings, tallied at 16:34 of the second to make it 2-0.
Team HNO wound up finishing with a 1-3-1 record at the event, which features the top U16 boys’ hockey talent in Ontario.
Team HNO lost 8-1 to Team Hockey Eastern Ontario on Friday and then 5-1 to Team Alliance on Saturday.
Emo native Luke Judson served as an assistant coach for Team HNO.
