Press Release
Team Black continued its domination of the Fort Frances Men’s Basketball League last night.
The league leaders rolled past Team Red 107-70 in their opener, then pulled out a 91-89 decision over Team White in the nightcap.
The first game started out fairly even, with Team Red staying close to perennial powerhouse Team Black through the first half and then into the second.
But once Cody Johnson caught fire from three-point range, it was lights out for Team Red.
Johnson hit only one trey in the first half, but buried 10 in the second, including eight straight without a miss to end the game.
His marksmanship put a damper on John Sivonen’s excellent 44-point effort for Team Red, which including scoring 26 of their first 36 points.
In what proved to be a see-saw battle in the second game, Sam Soderman scored a game-high 34 for Team Black, while Kevin Gemmell replied with 29 for White.
The game featured a high number of missed free throws by both teams, which impacted the final score.
It was definitely a physical game that ended with a good appreciation of both teams’ efforts in trying to secure a victory.
The league will take next week off due to the Easter Monday holiday and be back at it on April 4 at Fort High at 7 p.m.
