Local swimmer Donovan Taylor put together three sixth-place finishes at the Junior Short Course provincials in Etobicoke over the weekend.
The 15-year-old ended up sixth in the 200m backstroke (2:11.05), 200m IM (2:11.90), and 400m IM (4:45.32), setting personal bests in each one.
Taylor cut significant time from his seed time in two of those races—shedding 2.67 seconds in the 200m IM and 4.17 seconds in the 400m IM.
Taylor also qualified for the final in the 100m butterfly, where he finished eighth with a time of 1:00.98.
He missed the finals in his three other events, finishing 10th in the 100m backstroke (1:01.62), 11th in the 200m freestyle (1:59.62), and 16th in the 100m freestyle (55.79).
Taylor was the lone Aquanaut swimmer at the competition, but still finished 57th out of 92 teams on his own.
He also received a scholarship from Team Aquatic Sports for having the best combined grade point average and times in the pool in the region.
Taylor’s next two major competitions will be held in Winnipeg.
First, he and four other Aquanauts will attend the Manitoba/Saskatchewan Short Course Championships on March 18-21.
He also has qualified for the nationals, which are scheduled for July 22-25.
