Donovan Taylor made history at the Speedo Eastern National Championships in London, Ont. over the weekend, becoming the first local swimmer to earn a national medal.
The Fort Frances Aquanaut captured gold in the 200m I.M. event in the 16-and-under age division on Sunday with a time of 2:05.87, which also allowed him to qualify for the senior nationals.
Taylor also won silver on Friday night in the 400m I.M., although his time of 4:31.68 fell just short of the mark needed to qualify for the nationals in that event.
The Fort Frances native also had a pair of fifth-place finishes in the 200m backstroke and 200m butterfly events on Saturday, and placed 11th overall in the 100m butterfly on Sunday.
Next up for Taylor will be the short course provincial championships in Kanata (near Ottawa) this weekend before representing Fort High at OFSSA in Etobicoke the following weekend.
