It wasn’t a good weekend for the local Tagg’s Bantam rep squad at the eight-team Tournament of Champions in Brandon, Man.
“They could have beat any team there if they would have played well,” manager Ron Bridgeman remarked.
Tagg’s had opened the tournament with 5-5 decision against the Northwest Stars, scoring a pair of late goals–including the equalizer by Eric Mosbeck with just 10 seconds to play–to earn the tie.
Andrew George had given Tagg’s a 1-0 lead but the Stars roared back with three unanswered goals in the first period.
Jamie Davis made it 3-2 in the second, then Scott Bridgeman (Tyler Barker) tied it at 3-3 early in the third.
After the Stars regained a two-goal margin, Mosbeck (George/Jordan Wilson) brought Tagg’s back to within one. Then he was the hero in the dying seconds (assisted by Davis/Bridgeman).
But it was all downhill from there, losing 5-2 to the Dauphin Kings, 5-2 to the Brandon Wheat Kings, and then 7-4 to the Morden Hawks.
Davis (Wilson) and Mike Niskala tallied for Tagg’s against Dauphin while Cody Mosbeck and Wilson (George) scored in their loss to Brandon.
Wilson had a pair of goals against Morden, with singles going to Niskala and Barker. Niskala, Mosbeck, and Bryan Chambers were credited with assists in that one.
