The Fort Frances Taggs Bantam ‘AA’ squad hosted a six-team tourney over the weekend.
The tourney also featured teams from Dryden and Kenora, as well as three from Thunder Bay (South End Rangers, Norwest Stars, and the Beavers).
Each team played three pool games, with the top four advancing to the medal round.
After round-robin play, Norwest placed first based on wins over host Taggs (3-2), South End (6-2), and Kenora (1-0).
Taggs completed round-robin play with three points after a 4-1 win over Dryden, a 3-3 draw with the Beavers, and the 3-2 loss to Norwest.
Three other teams also finished with three points, with Taggs ending up ranked in second place, Kenora in third, the South End Rangers in fourth, and the Beavers relegated to fifth place after a tie-breaking formula was applied.
The semi-finals saw South End upset Norwest 5-4 while Kenora blanked Taggs 1-0 , setting up Sunday’s final between South End and Kenora.
The Rangers emerged victorious after a hard-fought 2-0 game while Norwest finished in third place after a 9-3 defeat of Taggs.
Dryden secured fifth place after a 3-1 win over the Beavers.
