For the second year in a row, the Sunset Country contingent captured the aggregate banner at the P.O.A. (pins over average) provincial roll-offs held over the weekend in Thunder Bay.
“We’re looking for a ‘three-peat’ now in Timmins next year,” said team manager Shirley Jensson of Fort Frances.
No local bowlers had qualified for the P.O.A. teams at the zone round held in November in Kenora, with the contingent being made up of those from Kenora, Dryden, and Atikokan.
Meanwhile, a number of junior bowlers travelled to North Bay on the weekend to take part in the YBC provincial roll-offs.
“After being on a bus for around 20 hours, I thought the team did really well,” coach Roberta Chabot lauded.
The highest-placing finisher from Sunset Country was Lyle Dolph of Fort Frances, who finished second in the senior boys’ event.
Natasha Petawanaqueb (senior girls), Dallas Gervais (junior boys), and Telia McFarlane (Bantam girls) all finished in fourth place in their respective divisions.
Meanwhile, a local Bantam girls’ team (Alexis Parker, Kora Cook, Alina Eldridge, and Jacey Bump), as well as a junior boys’ squad (Brendan Morand, Dusty Good-Thurber, Josh Supinski, and Jonah McCormick), were in North Bay, as well, and also finished fourth overall.
