A local hotel is getting in on bass fishing action this year with a major sponsorship.

The Mitaanjigamiing First Nation owned Studio 6 Extended Stay Hotel in Fort Frances announced yesterday that it will be sponsoring this year’s Fort Frances Canadian Bass Championship (FFCBC) with $5,000.

The Fort Frances Bass Championship is a premier sport fishing event held annually. 100 teams of two will compete in a catch and release tournament with three days of fishing themed activities for onlookers to participate in.

“The Bass Championship is more than just a tournament, it is a celebration of our community, our natural resources, and the people who make Fort Frances such a special place,” Chris Martin, the hotel’s area general manager, said in a press release. “We are honoured to support this event as a Five Star Sponsor and contribute to an initiative that brings visitors, businesses, and residents together each year.”

The hotel’s management also said in the release that they are committed to supporting initiatives that strengthen the local economy, celebrate community pride, and showcase everything that makes Fort Frances a remarkable place to live, work, and visit.

The Bass Championship, held this year July 16 – 18, regularly draws in anglers and spectators alike from throughout the Northwestern Ontario region and nearby states to the south.

According to the press release, the hotel’s team is looking forward to welcoming anglers, event staff, volunteers and visitors to town during the tournament week, wishing a safe and successful event to all.
