The Muskie track-and-field team saved its best for last.
Sean Huziak recorded Fort High’s best individual result at the OFSAA championships in Belleville when he placed seventh in the Midget boys’ discus on the final day of the competition Saturday.
Huziak, a double gold-medalist at the NWOSSAA championships in Thunder Bay the previous week, recorded a top throw of 40.0 metres in the second round to be one of the eight competitors in the field of 24 to advance to the final three rounds of the six-round event.
He was the only Muskie to make it through to the final round portion of his event.
It also marked a bounce-back from his javelin result Friday, when he finished last out of 23 entrants.
Fellow Muskie Aaron Scheibler also competed in the discus, fouling on his first two throws before posting a mark of 32.06 metres, which good enough for 16th position.
Scheibler also competed in the Midget boys’ shot put at OFSAA earlier in the week.
Grace Petsnick (Midget girls’ high jump), Sekina Scheibler (senior boys’ discus), Jill Calder (Midget girls’ shot put), and Carson Noga (Midget boys’ 400m) also represented the Muskies in Belleville.
The Muskie athletic awards banquet will take place this Thursday at 6 p.m. at the local Legion.
