Stratton rink opens title quest

Maury Nielson’s rink from the Stratton Curling Club will resume their quest towards the 2011 Dominion Curling Club Championship this afternoon in Sault Ste. Marie as they open play at the provincial playdowns.
Nielson, along with third Neil Haw, second Andrew McCormick, and lead Tyler Nielson, began the round-robin portion of the six-team affair at 1:30 p.m. (CST) against Dale Dubinsky (Kakabeka Falls).
They’ll then take on Kevin Rutledge’s host foursome tonight.
The Stratton foursome will conclude round-robin play tomorrow with a trifecta of games, beginning with an 8:30 a.m. tilt against Tom Leonard (Sudbury).
That will be followed by a 1 p.m. contest against Chris Blair (New Liskeard) before Nielson wraps up the round-robin slate at 7 p.m. versus Jonah Dupuis (Nipigon).
The finals in both the men’s and women’s pools are slated for 9 a.m. on Sunday, but those may be pushed back to noon if tie-breakers are needed.
At stake is the chance to represent Northern Ontario at the 2011 Dominion Curling Club Championships, slated for Nov. 21-26 in Richmond, B.C.
