Jessica Haw’s rink from Stratton is vying for a berth at next month’s Northern Ontario junior curling playdowns.
The district foursome is competing against three other rinks at the Region 1 playdowns this weekend at the Keewatin Curling Club.
Haw, along with third Kaylee Heyens, second Maria Vandenbrand, and lead Myan Miller, began play this afternoon against Mega Szajewski of Keewatin, then will meet Heather Frostiak (Red Lake) at 7 p.m.
Haw then will take on Kaitlyn Poirier (Sioux Lookout) tomorrow at 9 a.m., followed by rematches against Szajewski and Frostiak at 2 and 7 p.m., respectively.
The final game of the double round-robin for the Haw foursome will be Sunday at 9 a.m. versus Poirier, with tiebreakers (if necessary) getting underway at 1 p.m.
The top two rinks will earn berths to the provincial playdowns Jan. 5-8 in Sioux Lookout, with that winner advancing to the M&M Meat Shops junior national showdown Feb. 4-12 in Napanee, Ont.
