Maury Nielson, representing the Stratton Curling Club, ran the table at the Dominion Club Championship regional playdowns in Kenora over the weekend.
His rink went a perfect 4-0 to earn a berth at the provincial playdowns April 8-10 in Sault Ste. Marie.
Nielson, alongside third Neil Haw, second Andrew McCormick, and lead Tyler Nielson, sealed the deal with a 8-3 win over Steve Lundin (Kenora) on Saturday night, which also meant he didn’t even have to take on Don DeBenedet (Fort Frances) in his final round-robin contest Sunday morning.
DeBenedet’s foursome, which included third Ian McLennan, second David Green, and lead Rod Newman, finished the weekend with a 2-2 record to end up in a three-way tie for second place in the six-team field with Lundin and Ted Szajewski (Keewatin).
The winner of the Northern Ontario crown will earn a berth into the Dominion Club Championships, which will take place in Richmond, B.C. in November.
