After dropping an 8-2 decision to the Rainy River Royals back on July 26, the Stratton Eagles have become the hottest team in the Rainy River District Fastball League playoffs.
The Eagles, the fifth-seeded team entering the post-season, now find themselves two wins away from capturing the league title after they beat the second-ranked Beef’s Warriors 9-4 in semi-final action last night at Couchiching.
That sets the stage for a meeting Tuesday night with the regular-season champion Big Grassy Braves.
The opening pitch is set for 6:30 p.m. in Big Grassy, although the start time may be moved up to 6 p.m. so the game can be completed before sunset.
If the Braves win, they’ll be crowned the RRDFL champs.
Should the Eagles win, a winner-take-all game will be held next Thursday in Stratton.
Stratton had kept themselves alive in the double-elimination playoffs with wins over the defending champion Sight & Sound Wolves and Barwick Blue Knights.
Then they avenged their earlier loss to the Royals with a 12-9 win Tuesday night in Rainy River to set the stage for last night’s semi-final.
The Braves have yet to lose in the post-season. But they also haven’t played since clinching a berth in the final with a 7-1 win over Beef’s Warriors back on Aug. 9.
