Strain set to compete Friday

Muskie Josh Strain will put his training to the test on the provincial stage at Varsity Stadium at the University of Toronto this Friday (June 5).
The Grade 11 student is competing in the OFSAA senior men’s high jump event starting at 4:30 p.m. (EDT).
Strain is slotted to go 14th in the 24-man field in the preliminaries, and is seeded with a jump of 1.80 metres—the height that earned him gold at the NWOSSAA finals in Thunder Bay last month.
Strain captured fifth place in this event at last year’s all-Ontarios in Hamilton with a personal-best jump of 1.80 metres, but said he’s confident he can shoot for 1.90m this time around.
Branden Wilhelm of Woodstock, Ont. is seeded with the highest mark of 2.15 metres, and is the same competitor who took the junior gold in Strain’s age group at last year’s provincial showdown.
