Brody Strachan was feeling a little claustrophobic so he put some breathing room between himself and Jeff Davis.
Strachan nabbed his second WISSOTA Modifieds feature win of the season Saturday night as the Emo driver extended his lead over Davis in the standings in Borderland Racing Association action at the Emo Speedway.
Following a rainout the previous week, Strachan washed away the eight-car field in the feature after doing the same in the heat to push his season total to 538 points.
Davis, from Devlin, only could manage a fourth-place showing in the feature and now is 31 points back in second while Ron Korpi of Fort Frances is third (479).
Tyler Brown (Rainy River) was second in the feature while Greg Ferris (Emo) finished third.
In the WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds division, Jason Williamson of Fort Frances drove the #88 car to first place in the 13-driver feature ahead of Davis and Anthony Visser (Emo).
Williamson also closed some of the ground between himself and division leader Cody Ossachuk of Pinewood (547 points), although the defending champ still is 36 ahead of Williamson (511).
James Lambert took advantage of the absence of the circuit’s winningest driver, Jamie Davis, to sneak past the Devlin native into third place in the division standings with 502 (compared to 501 for Davis).
The Street Stocks feature, meanwhile, was an exercise in chaos Saturday night, with four of the 17 starters not finishing the race.
Jesse Thompson of Emo also was disqualified.
That opened the door for Tylar Wilson of Fort Frances to take his fifth checkered flag of the season ahead of Raice Westover (Fort Frances) and Jake Froemke (International Falls).
But Wilson still finds himself with the biggest difference to make up of any second-place driver in the standings, as he is a full 43 points back of Kevin Desserre of Dryden.
Like Ossachuk, Desserre has yet to win a feature race this season. But his fourth-place finish Saturday still means he leads the division with 428 points compared to 385 for Wilson.
Froemke is third (369).
Racing resumes this Saturday, with hot laps at 7 p.m. and the green flag at 7:30 (weather permitting).
