The Rockford IceHogs of the United Hockey League announced last week former Muskie Wayne Strachan has joined the team for the rest of this season.
Strachan, 27, originally had signed with the IceHogs during the off-season as the team moved to Rockford from Thunder Bay. But he failed to report at training camp while pursuing a career outside of hockey and consequently was suspended.
Strachan is a huge offensive threat in the UHL, having led the league in goals scored last season (57) and was second in points overall (128) to linemate Jason Firth.
He also finished in the top five in the league in assists, power-play goals, short-handed tallies, shots, and plus/minus.
“This is a guy who scored 57 goals last year in this league,” said IceHogs head coach Dale DeGray. “Wayne’s a pure goal scorer who should contribute immediately. You can get lucky and score six, seven, or eight goals in a season but not 57.
“I look forward to seeing what he can do for us,” he added.
