The Borderland Racing Association’s season at the Emo Speedway came to an anti-climactic end with steady rain washing out the final weekend’s championship features.
BRA president Anthony Leek said the event would not be re-scheduled since many of the drivers already had committed to races south of the border in the coming weeks, and new clay would have had to been ordered for the track.
“It was a bad season weather-wise,” Leek noted. “We were rained out five times, which is more than it has been in recent years, as well as a couple half-nights which we finished the week later.
“However, we had a great Fall Fair weekend with some really exciting action and lots of cars, and the racing was exciting week in and week out,” Leek added.
In the WISSOTA Modifieds division, Greg Ferris squeaked out the overall title with 597 points. Last year’s champ, Gavin Paull, was a close second (590) while Dwayne Pelepetz took third (563).
Kendal Gamsby of Stratton took the WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds title with 556 points, followed by Chuck Lambert in second (540) and Brady Caul in third (530).
Meanwhile, Tylar Wilson of Fort Frances finished atop the Street Stocks standings with 584 points, well ahead of runner-up Richard Visser (546) and third-place finisher Carlee Bosma (499).
And in the WISSOTA Super Stocks, Rick Simpson of Thunder Bay claimed top spot with a 105-point total, one better than Gary Jr. Nelson and Gordie Lancaster, who tied for second.
“It takes a lot of people to make the season so successful and thanking everyone who has been involved is very important to us as an organization,” Leek stressed.
Leek also said attendance was strong this season despite the weather.
