Starting on pole doesn’t pay off for Arpin

Fort Frances native Steve Arpin had one first-place finish under his belt over the weekend.
Unfortunately, he peaked early as he was unable to parlay the pole position on the starting grid into a victory—finishing seventh yesterday at the ARCA circuit’s Allen Crowe 100 at the Illinois State Fairground.
Arpin finished 9.8 seconds behind winner Patrick Sheltra, and remains mired in 13th place in the overall ARCA standings with 2,335 points.
Overall leader Frank Kimmel has 3,205.
In other sports news, local golfer Christin Thomson will try to qualify for one of four slots in this week’s CN Canadian Women’s Open.
The event is holding an open qualifier today, where Thomson will compete against 45 other hopefuls for one of the four entries.
The CN Canadian Women’s Open will run Aug. 26-29 at the St. Charles Country Club in Winnipeg.
