Stamarski bowls to fourth-place finish in Kenora

Chris Stamarski of Fort Frances placed fourth at the Youth Challenge Bowling Championships last Saturday in Kenora and will be part of the 15-player contingent representing the Sunset Country District at the provincial championships in Timmins this March.
Stamarski’s 1,086 pin total placed him behind Warren Bent (1,264), Jeff Hazelwood (1,168) and Mike Parr (1,089), all from Dryden.
Tim Chabot, also from here, placed seventh with a 1,047 total.
Meanwhile, in the girls’ division, local bowler Terri Guerts placed second with a 1,138 total behind Cari Coughlin of Kenora (1,307) while Allison Amorde, also from here, placed fifth with 1,034 pins.
About 60 bowlers from Fort Frances, Kenora, Atikokan, Red Lake and Dryden took part in the one-day event for senior boys and girls ages 13-18.
In other bowling news, Plaza Lanes will be hosting the Fort Frances Invitational Handicap tournament this weekend with $4,200 in prize money up for grabs, including $1,000 for the top spot.
This year’s tournament features two-time winner Gordon Restrick looking for his third title while other winners include Dale Jensson, Jean Rydoell, Dino Morelli Sr., Sheila Engel and Shirley Jensson.
