St. Ignatius brings home gold medals

Both St. Ignatius soccer teams took home gold medals from the all-Ontario championships Saturday.
The fourth-seeded Lady Falcons, whose silver medal at last year’s OFSAA allowed the Muskies to attend the all-Ontarios this year, edged St. Thomas 2-1 in the final game in Sudbury.
Meanwhile, the boys’ team, who were seeded first for their tournament in North Bay, beat the St. Paul Wolverines 3-1 for the gold.
Both teams went undefeated in round-robin play.
The wins also mean two teams from NWOSSAA will be able to attend both all-Ontario showdowns next year—giving the Muskies a good chance of advancing should they capture NorWOSSA gold.
As reported in Friday’s Daily Bulletin, the Muskie girls missed out on the playoff round after finishing third in Pool ‘C’ with a 0-1-2 record.
They lost 6-0 to St. Mary’s, then tied Jean Vanier Catholic High School 2-2 before knotting Timmins 1-1. Kate Basaraba scored both goals versus Jean Vanier while Hillary Morgan netted their lone goal against Timmins.
