Sportsmen’s club celebrates successful year

Topics varied from old to new as the Fort Frances Sportsmen’s Club held its annual general meeting here last Wednesday night (Jan. 28).
The meeting began by recognizing the achievements of its junior members, who have been affiliated with the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters for last two years.
Sixteen young people, all but two of whom were present, were presented with “Get Outdoors” Merit Awards.
Also up for a special award last Wednesday was William Anderson, who received the Bud Cyr Award in appreciation for his year-long contributions to the club.
Club president Blair Beadow cited the great deal of time Anderson put in at the shooting range on McIrvine Road, where he kept the grass mowed and the trees trimmed.
He also was always available for special projects and whatever else needed to be done.
Guest speakers Darryl McLeod and Doug Gibb, with the local Ministry of Natural Resources office, also gave presentations regarding the status of deer tags and the “Moose Watch” program, respectively.
The club will be holding its next meeting Feb. 11, at which time its 14 directors will be elected.
