Stratton native Cody Heyens, a former Muskie curler, came away with the Canadian College Athletic Association invitational crown this past weekend in Peterborough as a member of the winning men’s team from Fanshawe College in London.
Heyens, who played third on Isaac Keffer’s silver medal-winning Fort High rink at last year’s OFSAA championships, was lead on the Falcons’ rink skipped by Chris Jay, who edged out Dawson Abraham’s team from Red Deer 5-4.
The event was the first collegiate national curling championship to take place since 1990.

Local angler Bryan Gustafson had a rough go of things in his second FLW EverStart Series Southwest Tour event on Georgia’s Lake Seminole this past week, finishing in 131st place.
Gustafson only was able to snag one fish that weighed in at 4.08 pounds on Thursday, which put him down in the rankings. He then suffered a mechanical failure on his way back to shore on Friday, which caused him to fail to return to the dock on time.
The next event for Gustafson will be on the Santee Cooper chain of lakes in Summerton, S.C. from April 19-21.
