The Muskie senior girls’ volleyball team were in Thunder Bay over the weekend for a tournament hosted by Lakehead University, where they reached the semi-finals before bowing out to the St. Ignatius Falcons.
Fort High finished second overall in their pool during the round-robin portion of the tournament thanks to two-set victories over the Churchill Trojans, Marathon Falcons, and Manitouwadge Wolverines.
Their lone loss came in a two-set decision to their NorWOSSA rivals from Dryden.
From there, the Muskies swept the Westgate Tigers (Thunder Bay) in their best-of-three opening playoff match before being swept by St. Ignatius in the semi-finals to bring an end to their weekend.
The St. Thomas Aquinas Saints (Kenora) wound up beating St. Ignatius in the final.
Besides the tournament, the Muskies also attended a pair of Lakehead University women’s volleyball matches against the University of Ottawa Gee-Gee’s over the weekend, along with an exhibition contest between the Thunderwolves and Team Canada yesterday.
As well, Muskie players attended a clinic put on by Lakehead U and Team Canada while the team’s coaches went to a clinic put on by Team Canada’s coaching staff.
The Muskies return to NorWOSSA action tomorrow in Dryden before hosting the Kenora Broncos on Wednesday afternoon.
