Spikers capture Kenora tourney

Facing the Kenora Broncos in the semi-finals of an eight-team senior boys’ tournament there Saturday, the Muskies admitted they were a bit leery heading into the matchup.
But once they got onto the floor, any worries quickly evaporated as they blew away their NorWOSSA rivals in two-straight games by scores of 25-12 and 25-17.
“We got out there and crushed them,” said head coach Adrian Chapman. “We felt we were a better, stronger, [and] more powerful team.”
The Muskies then rode that momentum to dominate Sioux Lookout–a team they have beaten on previous occasions this season–to the tune of 25-8 and 25-12 in the championship game.
“We were confident we could beat [Sioux Lookout],” said Chapman. “We weren’t worried. We knew we could keep [the good play] up.
“We had more talent than them by far,” he noted.
Chapman said the Muskies showed off their power from the hitting positions, got some “fantastic” setting from Mike Anderson, and their blocking also was impressive.
He agreed the team picked a perfect time to gel at the tournament while beating Kenora along the way, and felt it should give them a confidence boost heading into the NorWOSSA playoffs next week.
“Our blocking really improved and our defence on the floor was great,” Chapman said. “The ball rarely hit the floor and when the ball doesn’t hit the floor, it’s tough to lose.”
