The underdogs need to find a new kennel.
It was business as usual for most of the top teams as the Fort Frances Women’s Volleyball League playoffs kicked off last Thursday (March 24) at Fort Frances High School and St. Michael’s School.
Regular-season champion How I Set Your Mother used its bye to the ‘A’ Side second round to its advantage by beating No. 8-rated I’d Hit That after that squad had slipped past No. 9-rated Wild Sets in their opening-round match earlier in the evening.
Following the same formula was second-seeded No Diggity, who got past No. 7-ranked Let’s Talk About Sets after the Sets bunch topped No. 10-rated We Could Carry Less.
Third-ranked Scared Hitless joined their fellow big guns in victory by downing No. 6-rated Gillons after the insurance crew rolled past No. 11-rated Rockstars.
The only upset of the night came when fifth-seeded Bump It Up got by No. 4-ranked That’s What She Set after first powering past No. 12-rated Sloppy Sets.
All those who lost last week are now in must-win scenarios entering tonight’s action, which gets underway at 7 p.m.
There will be four ‘B’ Side matchups, with the losing sides eliminated from championship contention.
Rockstars takes on That’s What She Set, while We Could Carry Less challenges I’d Hit That in the 7 p.m. games at Fort High.
At 8 p.m., it’s Wild Sets battling Let’s Talk About Sets, while Sloppy Sets tries to outgun Gillons.
The winners of then early matches will then meet, along with the survivors from the late matches, in two more win-or-go-home matches to earn a spot in the third round of the ‘B’ Side playdowns.
In the ‘A’ Side semifinals over at St. Michael’s, How I Set Your Mother will clash with Bump It Up at 7 p.m., while Scared Hitless tangles with No Diggity at 8 p.m.
The two triumphant teams there will advance to the ‘A’ Side final next week, while the losing squads will drop into the ‘B’ Side of the playoff bracket.
