Spike champs ousted

There will be a new queen of the hill in the Fort Frances Women’s Volleyball League.
That outcome was ensured when defending champion Dig This was ousted last Thursday after losing its ‘B’ side playoff match to Bump It Up.
Dig This, which finished in seventh place during the regular season, was down to its last life in the double-elimination playoffs after losing to second-seeded Alliance the previous week.
The title-holders stayed alive by eliminating ninth-seeded Ball Busters in their first match of the night last Thursday.
But Bump It Up, which knocked out 12th-ranked Kiss My Ace earlier in the evening, and has been one of the league’s stronger teams in the second half of the season, were too much for Dig This to handle.
The highest seed to fall by the wayside last week was Notorious D.I.G.
Seeded fourth, the squad finished off 11th-seeded SMASH in its opening ‘B’-side match that night, but then was upset by eighth-ranked By The Balls, which earlier had ended the year for 10th-ranked I’d Hit That.
In ‘A’-side action last Thursday, top-ranked Scared Hitless stayed on track by beating fifth-ranked Kiss My Pass.
Third-ranked Gillons’ Cougars, meanwhile, joined them in the next round with a minor upset of Alliance.
Tonight’s schedule at Fort High kicks off at 7 p.m. with a pair of third-round matches on the ‘B’ side.
The four teams involved facing the daunting task of winning three-straight matches this evening to qualify for the championship final April 10 at 7 p.m.
Alliance will duel By The Balls while Kiss My Pass takes on Bump It Up.
The winners of those two matches then will square off at 8 p.m. in the ‘B’-side semi-final.
At the same time, Scared Hitless and Gillons’ will square off in the ‘A’-side final.
The loser of that match drops to the ‘B’-side final, where they’ll face the winner of the ‘B’ semi-final at 9 p.m.
