Speedway drivers honoured

The Emo Speedway held its annual awards banquet on Saturday, taking the opportunity to look back on a year past to look ahead to the future.
The big story of the night was the strong showing of rookie racers at the podium.
Matthew Mutz was selected as Rookie of the Year in an unheard-of class of six first-year drivers, including Matt DePiero, Brady Caul, Cody Wolkoski, Christopher Leek, and Simon Crans.
All six were in the Midwest Modified class and three of them—Mutz, DePiero, and Caul—placed in the top 10, led by Mutz with a fifth overall finish.
Also at the podium was DePiero, who shared the Midwest division’s Sportsmanship Award with Mike Wilson.
Tylar Wilson earned the nod for the Street Stock class while Jake Kamm and Gary Wilson tied for the WISSOTA Modifieds.
Also feted were the season’s point leaders—Ron Westover, Kendal Gamsby, and Gavin Paull.
The awards marked the end of the season for the Borderland Racing Association.
Its annual general meeting will take place Sunday, Dec. 9 at the Back Alley Bar in Emo.
