Solid week for Muskies

It was an impressive week overall for all four Muskie court teams.
The senior girls’ volleyball team earned gold at the 20-team St. Patrick tournament in Thunder Bay that ran Friday and Saturday.

The senior boys’ hoopsters, meanwhile, nabbed third place at the Kenora Invitational Tournament held over those same two days.
The squad opened play Friday with a 66-54 win over the Portage CI Trojans, then were thumped 52-27 by Churchill on Saturday.
But the squad responded with an impressive 71-48 rout of the host Broncos later Saturday to claim bronze.
It also was feeding time for the Muskies at the “Fish Tank” on Thursday as all four squads came away victorious in NorWOSSA action against the visiting Kenora Broncos.
The junior boys’ hoopsters gutted out a narrow 45-42 win to improve their regular-season record to 5-1.
Michael Vanderaa scored a team-high 19 points while Brady Bodnarchuk added 12 and Sean Huziak chipped in with six.
The senior Muskies cruised to a 78-44 romp to improve to 3-3 in NorWOSSA play.
Jreydon Indian netted a team-high 17 points while Cole Kowalski had 16.
In girls’ volleyball action, the senior Muskies improved to 4-2 after defeating the Broncos in straight-sets (25-18, 25-18, and 25-21).
The juniors also claimed a straight-sets victory (25-8, 25-11, and 25-9) to improve to their league record to 5-1.
All four Muskie teams will conclude regular-season play this week with games against the host Broncos on Wednesday before visiting the Dryden Eagles on Thursday.
