Soccer teams reverse fortunes

The Muskie soccer squads swapped places in Kenora last week, with the girls clinching the top spot in their division and the boys falling to third.
Both results were somewhat surprising given the boys went into the two-day tournament on Thursday and Friday leading their division while the girls were in last place in theirs.
The girls first blanked the Dryden Eagles 1-0 courtesy of a goal by forward Sandi Elliott, then blanked Kenora 2-0 on goals by midfielder Kelsey Quibell and another from Elliott.
Taylor Meyers earned both shutouts in goal.
The boys, meanwhile, were on the wrong end of the shutouts—falling 1-0 to Dryden and then 3-0 to the host Broncos.
In an e-mail, boys’ coach Shane Beckett credited striker Scott Gurski with a standout performance, citing his “leadership and motivation” in keeping their loss to Dryden as close as it was.
The boys then tied Dryden in a 1-1 exhibition rematch before beating Rainy River in exhibition play.
The girls came up with two draws in their exhibition games Friday, tying Dryden 1-1 and Rainy River 0-0.
The NorWOSSA championships go this Wednesday (May 16) up in Dryden.
