Plans are a-changin’ when it comes to the under-12 Fort Frances district soccer team.
An information and registration meeting will be held tonight at 6:30 p.m. in the small gym at Fort High for all under-12 and under-13 players and their parents.
Tonight initially was scheduled as the first practice for the district team, but co-coach Sarah Noonan said in an e-mail that she thought it would be better to explain the u-12 district program and what training, expenses, and travel is involved.
“I did not receive many e-mails regarding registration, so I’d like to see how many players are interested,” said Noonan.
Noonan noted although the under-13 players from last year would not be eligible to compete in the district tournament, she still wanted to provide them the opportunity to train and develop their soccer skills by practising with the u-12 district team if the numbers allow it.
The u-12 district team still is a going concern for this year—despite the postponement of the Soccer Northwestern Ontario Developmental Youth League.
It was slated to begin play this year, featuring teams from Fort Frances, Kenora, Thunder Bay, and Dryden, but had its inaugural season pushed back to 2010 due to a lack of referees and financial considerations.
