Everybody’s so excited for the Borderland Soccer League playoffs, they decided to skip the rest of the regular season.
First-place Centra Pipelines and third-place Manitou Forest Products played what turned out to be the men’s division regular-season finale Monday, with Manitou earning a 3-0 decision.
Connor Nelson, Colton Spicer, and Marlon Douglas tallied for Manitou (7-7-2), with James Pavier earning the shutout.
Britt Green and Tyler Hamm shared the net duties for Centra (10-6).
The two teams had two more makeup games against each other that would have been played last night and tonight.
But with the semi-finals beginning tomorrow at 6:30 p.m., that would have meant both squads playing four games in four nights–an arduous task for any soccer team.
So by mutual consent, it was agreed Centra would be given the forfeit win last night and Manitou would get the same luxury tonight.
That sets up tomorrow’s opening of the two-leg, total-goal men’s semi-finals.
Centra will take on fourth-place Pharmasave (4-11-1) while the other showdown will feature second-place CJ Contracting (8-5-3) face Manitou.
The second leg of both semi-finals will take place next Tuesday, with the winners advancing to the league final next Thursday (Aug. 10).
As for the women’s division, Game 1 of the best-of-three final between La Place Rendez-Vous/Taggs (4-3-1) and Al’s Racquet Stringing (3-4-1) goes tonight at 6:30 p.m.
Game 2 will be played next Wednesday, with Game 3 (if necessary) set for the following night.
