Soccer finals set for Monday

If Mother Nature co-operates, the Borderland Soccer Association will crown its 2005 champions on Monday night at the St. Francis Sportsfields.
Both the women’s gold-medal match and the second of two men’s semi-finals were slated for yesterday evening, but were postponed when thunderstorms rumbled through the area.
The men’s semi-final match will be played tonight, with Taggs, who finished second in the regular-season standings, facing third-place Gillons.’
The winner of that contest will take on Subway, which advanced to the final with a 4-1 win over Emo on Tuesday night. Subway had cruised through the regular-season with an impressive 12-4-1 record.
On the women’s side, Taggs, who upset Gillons’ 6-2 in semi-final action Tuesday evening, will take on top-ranked Curves in the championship game.
With a number of players returning to college or university soon, Borderland Soccer Association president Shane Beckett said everyone is keeping their fingers crossed that evening showers won’t wreak havoc again tonight or on Monday.
“Hopefully the weather will co-operate,” he said.
Last season, Gillons’ grabbed the men’s league title while Taggs captured the women’s crown.
