Slo-pitch tourney underway

The annual John Kingsley Downs/Gus Lindberg Memorial slo-pitch tournament kicked off in Devlin on Monday night.
The week-long showdown features 12 entries battling it out, including seven squads from Devlin, three from Fort Frances, one from Emo, and one composed of the Downs family.
The tournament is holding one game per night from Monday to Thursday, then two games on Friday night, before revving up for all-day action Saturday and Sunday beginning at 7 a.m.
The ‘A’ final is slated for 2:30 p.m. on Sunday.
Downs and Lindberg were long-time umpires in the district, with organizer Jack Kellar noting both men “used to ump our tournaments for years.”
