This week will not only close the month of August, but also the 2003 Fort Frances Adult Slo-Pitch League season.
Dubbed “Championship Week,” the eight teams still standing will face off in a series of games to determine an ultimate champion.
The week will culminate with three contests Thursday, featuring the ‘A’ and ‘B’ bracket championship games, followed by a showdown between the two winners for the league championship.
The decision to use this particular format was passed by a 4-2 margin from the six teams who submitted votes on the matter.
The first series of games will take place tonight, with the Tuesday night ‘A’ Bracket championship featuring West End Motors taking on the Rural Reps at the St. Francis Sportsfield central diamond at 6:30 p.m, while the Tuesday night ‘B’ Bracket Championship between the Little Rascals and FUBAR will be played at the south field.
Tomorrow night, the ‘A’ Bracket semi-final will take place on the south field at 6:30 between the winner of tonight’s ‘A’ Bracket game and Spuds, with the survivor challenging Normiska, who had a bye to the ‘A’ bracket final on Thursday.
On Wednesday, Rainy Lake Realty awaits an opponent for the ‘B’ Bracket semi-final game scheduled to be played on the south field at 6:30 p.m.
They will play the Johnny V’s on Wednesday if FUBAR wins tonight since FUBAR drew an ‘Ace’ in the playing card lottery held on Friday while the Johnny V’s picked a ‘Queen’, allowing FUBAR a bye into the final.
However, if FUBAR loses tonight, Little Rascals will play Rainy Lake Realty on Wednesday, and the Johnny V’s will get the bye into Thursday’s playdowns.
Thursday will see both the ‘A’ bracket and ‘B’ bracket finals played at 6 p.m. on the south and central fields, respectively. The winners will square off in the bot- tom half of the doubleheader for the championship on the south field at 8 p.m.
Fastball update In Rainy River District Fastball League action last week, Rainy Lake edged Big Grassy 4-3.
Tomorrow night’s playoff matchups include Barwick at Pinewood, Rainy River at Sight & Sound, and Rainy Lake at Big Island.
