Slo-pitch, fastball playoffs go tonight

Playoffs for the local adult mixed slo-pitch get underway tonight with five games on the docket.
The Rural Reps, the top team in the ‘A’ bracket, will play sixth-place West End on the Central diamond at the St. Francis Sportsfield at 6:45 p.m. while second-ranked Investors will face the fifth-place North Air Chill on the North diamond, also at 6:45 p.m.
The Woodticks, who were second in the ‘B’ bracket, will play the third-place team, Ed Kaun & Sons, at 6:45 p.m. out at VanJura Stadium, followed by FUBAR (#3 in the ‘A’ bracket) versus the Little Rascals (#4 in the ‘A’ bracket) at 8 p.m.
Winners from tonight’s action will again play next Tuesday night.
Then on Thursday, the Spuds (#1 in the ‘B’ bracket) will meet the North Air Benchwarmers (#4 in the ‘B’ bracket) at 6 p.m. on the South diamond at the St. Francis Sportsfield while The Mix (#2 in the ‘B’ bracket) will face The Clippers (#3 in the ‘B’ bracket) at VanJura, also at 6 p.m.
Normiska (#1 from the ‘A’ bracket) is slated to play Whalen’s Welding (#4 in the ‘A’ bracket) at 6:45 p.m. at the Central diamond while the Beer Batters (#2 in the ‘A’ bracket) will take on the One Hitters (#3 in the ‘A’ bracket) on the North diamond, also at 6:45 p.m. at the North field.
Winner’s from Thursday’s games will play again next Tuesday night.
Tomorrow’s games are still unknown as the three teams in Wednesday night play have not submitted their regular-season standings.
The Rainy River District Fastball League also will get its playoffs underway tonight when eighth-place Pinewood hosts ninth-place Red Gut Bay.
The winner moves on to meet top-ranked Rainy River on Thursday night while the loser is done for the season.
The rest of the first-round playoff match-ups also go Thursday night, including third-place Sight & Sound facing sixth-place Big Island at 8 p.m. at VanJura.
The other games feature second-place Barwick meeting seventh-place Sabaskong and fourth-place Stratton taking on fifth-place Big Grassy.
The league final is slated for Aug. 30.
