Ski club getting into gear

It may still be fall but local cross-country skiers already are getting ready for the coming season. They’ve started a club, and are looking to improve local trails.
“There are some primitive trails in the area,” noted organizer Cam Moorhouse. “I have a vision to begin a club to share with the public.
“I want to develop a proper local facility that will be about 15-20 km long,” he added.
Moorhouse enjoys the sport and knows of others in the community who share it. And he wants to help build that interest.
“There are a number of people in the area who have an interest in cross-country skiing . . . and I want to promote more interest in the community,” he enthused.
“Don’t think small–think big,” he added, referring to his wanting to build a cross-country ski trail and facility.
He said the club currently is in its early stages but plans to get people who are interested in skiing out to the trail and help clean up.
Moorhouse stressed the club will be non-profit but expects that once the committee starts soliciting for funds, everything will fall into place.
“The entire plan shouldn’t take more than two or three years,” he noted. “If people are interested, it is a good time to solicit money.”
He also said it won’t cost a lot of money for trail upkeep, adding that building the trail is what will cost the most money.
“It is not high maintenance–it is just getting the trail built,” he stressed.
