Skeet shooters prep for shoot-off

Ah, perfect night, imperfect shooters. The prevailing belief all summer was great scores were nere impossible given the 90 degree weather. Failure begs many and any reasons(excuses!). Alas, August 31 skeet did see a 24/25 from Brad Houghton but Brad’s one miss was an easy incomer. So “easy” that new shooters are given this target because of its inherent “easiness”. But, they are ALL hard to hit, easy to miss! Brad’s only good score is the only publishable score this week as high teens and 20-21 were the norm!

YES, we had a late start due to Covid lockdown. YES,the weather was brutal!YES,YES,YES! We should be MUCH better. With one last tune up on Tuesday next before the SHOOT OFF TOURNAMENT on Saturday, September 11, the championship could go to the one who stumbles least, rather than excellence. The top two high average shooters are Jeremy McGuire and Brad Houghton whose season High Overall is but two tenths away with a slight nod to Brad so they are certainly the favourites. But,if Zac Manty or Jackson Tucker get hot that day all bets are off! Slated to shoot that day are Reg Weeks,Connor Dent to make up a squad of four, one of three.

Graciously, Times journalist Merna Emara will attend the finale for trophy presentation and a season-ending write up. Finally, your writer will be competing in the tournament and I must thank FF Times and staff for tremendous support all season and the readers of my submissions, as I attempt to elevate the profile of FFSC skeet shooting. Fun, safe! Until next year.
