Skates & Blades win Dryden tourney

The local Skates & Blades Tom Thumb hockey team captured the Pizza Hut Classic tournament in Dryden on Sunday, downing Rainy River Legion 5-2 in the final.
Skates & Blades jumped out to a 2-0 lead after the first period on goals by Kevin Bobczynski and Danny Chapman.
Brian Glavish scored with 11:20 left in the second to make it 3-0 before Rainy River sliced the lead to 3-1 with a goal midway through the frame.
But Bobczynski and Glavish netted their second goals of the game in the third to ice the win.
Skates & Blades reached the final with a 3-0 shutout over the Sioux Lookout Cougars earlier Sunday. Bobczynski and George Ossachuk scored first-period goals, then Bobczynski added his second of the game with just 29 seconds to play.
Mellisa Calder earned the shutout in goal.
In the quarter-finals, Chapman scored in overtime to help Skates & Blades to a tight 3-2 decision over the Sioux Lookout Blues. Ossachuk got both goals in regulation time.
Skates & Blades, who finished divisional play with a 3-1 record, opened action last Friday with a 5-1 win over the Kenora Senators. Bobczynski led the way with a hat trick while Chapman and Ossachuk added singles.
Glavish and Chapman each scored three goals in an 8-0 shutout over the Red Lake Rockets in their next game. Justin Brown and George Halverson netted the other goals.
Skates & Blades then blanked a team from Dryden 6-0 (no goal scorers were available) on Saturday but later were dumped 3-1 by the Dryden Canucks.
Chapman scored the lone Fort goal in that one.
Busch’s Steelers, the other Fort Frances team in the tournament, were eliminated from further play Sunday after a 9-5 loss to the Sioux Lookout Stars.
Andrew Easton scored four goals while Benji Drazenovich netted the other in a losing cause.
It was their lone loss in the tournament after breezing through their division with four-straight wins, including a 4-2 win over the Dryden Eagles in their first game paced by a four-goal effort by Easton.
Dylan Helder earned the win between the pipes.
Easton had another four-goal game for the Steelers in an 8-1 trouncing over the Sioux Lookout Cougars. Brent Lindberg also had a big game, netting a hat trick, while Julia Martin got the other goal.
The Steelers than continued to play strong defensively, shutting out the ABB Red Wings 3-0 and then the Dryden Bruins 4-0.
Easton scored twice and Lindberg once in the win over the Red Wings while Drazenovich scored twice and Easton and Brendon Bruyere added singles against the Bruins.
