Skates & Blades take second

The Fort Frances Skates & Blades Novice boys’ hockey team fared well in Kenora over the weekend, coming home with a second-place finish out of the 16-team field.
Having gone undefeated up until the final, it would be Greendale (Winnipeg) that ended any chance of Skates & Blades taking the title, earning a 4-2 win in the championship game.
Adam George and Carson Noga scored for Skates & Blades.
Skates & Blades had ran roughshod through their competition earlier in the tournament, kicking off round-robin play with 8-2 and 8-1 thrashings over two teams from Kenora.
Noga led the way in both victories, scoring a pair in the first game before lighting the lamp seven times in the second one.
Mathew Spence netted a hat trick in their final round-robin game—a 9-2 shellacking of the Dryden Vipers—before Noga scored a hat trick of his own in a 6-0 triumph over Emo in the semi-finals.
