Ayiana Gagne was investing heavily in precious medals over the weekend.
She racked up six top-three finishes out of eight events to account for the majority of the Fort Frances Aquanauts’ total of 10 medals from its five-member team that competed at the TbayTel Thunderbolts Northwestern Ontario Long Course Championships in Thunder Bay.
Entered in the girls’ age 11-12 division, Gagne struck gold in both the 200m free (2:32.36) and 400m free (5:21.65).
She took silver in the 50m breaststroke (41.35) while adding a trio of bronze in the 100m free (1:10.39), 200m breast (3:23.13), and 200m I.M. (2:58.77).
Gagne nearly made it eight-for-eight in medals, but settled for fourth-place showings in the 50m free (32.89) and 100m fly (1:29.49).
Cassidy Roach was a double-medalist in the girls’ age 13-14 division–claiming silver in the 200m back (2:41.51) and bronze in the 400m I.M. (6:12.02).
Also earning two medals was Jesse Begin, who nabbed bronze in the 100m fly (1:15.45) and 200m I.M. (2:54.97).
Begin also had five fourth-place finishes in the 50m free (30.73), 100m free (1:09.84), 200m free (2:35.22), 100m back (1:25.23), and 200m back (2:58.37).
Callum Galusha nearly joined the medal party–garnering three fourth-place results in the 200m free (2:36.74), the 200m back (2:52.93), and 200m I.M. (3:02.72) in the male age 15-and-over division.
And Jacy Gagne managed three sixth-place finishes in the girls’ age 13-14 division in the 100m back (1:23.29), 200m back (3:22.76), and the 100m fly (1:28.26).
The local Cyclone Swim Club did not participate in the meet.
