Six teams bite dust

A full dance floor turned half-empty in a matter of a few hours.
The 12-team playoff field in the Fort Frances Women’s Volleyball League was whittled down to six last night as a half-dozen teams reached the end of their post-season road in the double elimination format.
Leading the list of departures was a quartet of teams that lost their ‘B’-side openers to finish the playoffs with 0-2 records.
Ninth-ranked One Hit Wonders were sent packing by seventh-seeded Scared Hitless while 10th-seeded Serves You Right had everything go wrong in being ousted by eighth-ranked The Inseiners.
As for 11th-ranked Arm & Hammer, they took it on the chin from fourth-ranked Bump It Up.
The 12th-seeded Rockstars, meanwhile, sung their last note of the season after being eliminated by sixth-ranked Let’s Talk About Sets.
That set up two second-round ‘B’-side matchups that saw Bump It Up oust The Inseiners from further contention while Scared Hitless did the same to Let’s Talk About Sets.
On the ‘A’-side, defending champion and top-seeded How I Set Your Mother rolled past fifth-ranked Gillons’ while third-seeded Kiss My Pass tripped up second-ranked No Diggity.
That means How I Set Your Mother and Kiss My Pass will clash for the ‘A’-side title next Thursday (April 13) at 8 p.m. at Fort High.
The winner is firmly in the driver’s seat as it only will have to win one of a possible two matches against the ‘B’-side winners to claim the overall league title on April 20.
No Diggity will square off against Bump It Up in one ‘B’-side third-round match, while Gillons’ will challenge Scared Hitless in the other, next Thursday at 7 p.m. at Fort High.
The winners of those two matches then will play each other at 8 p.m.
Whoever emerges victorious will go up against the loser of the ‘A’-side final at 9 p.m. to decide the ‘B’-side champion.
That, in turn, will determine who advances to the championship match.
