Silver, bronze for locals

Two out of three ain’t bad, although it wasn’t the result either of the two really wanted.
A pair of Fort Frances entries—the Kennedy K-9s and Canadian Tire—wound up with medals in their pockets at the end of the Fort Frances Minor Hockey Association’s annual Bantam ‘A’ tournament held at the Memorial Sports Arena over the weekend.
The K-9s made it all the way to the gold-medal game, but had to settle for silver yesterday after falling 7-0 to the champion Westfort Rangers (Thunder Bay).
Canadian Tire, meanwhile, rebounded from its only loss to win its last three games, including a 3-2 victory yesterday over the Norwest Stars (Kakabeka Falls) in the bronze-medal match-up yesterday.
Game summaries from both games were unavailable as of press time this morning.
The K-9s captured first place in its pool in the 10-team tournament with a 3-0-1 record.
They opened play with a 2-1 victory over Emo Esso, then followed that with a 2-2 tie with the Hailey’s Camps Comets (Kenora), a 3-2 decision over Holmlund’s (Fort Frances), and a 2-1 victory over the Norwest Stars.
Canadian Tire blanked the Emo Fury 1-0 in its first game, but then were whitewashed 5-0 by Westfort.
But they rebounded with shutout wins over the Sioux Storm (Sioux Lookout) 5-0 and (Dryden Eagles 2-0) to earn a berth in the bronze-medal game.
