The SIJHL announced last Thursday its schedule for the 2019-20 regular season.
A total of 168 games will be on the league docket, with opening night action for the SIJHL’s 19th campaign beginning on three fronts on Friday, Sept. 20– including the Wisconsin Lumberjacks’ first-ever game as the league returns to Spooner, Wis.
Among the other regular season highlights is the Thunder Bay North Stars’ home-opener on Friday, Oct. 4 as they raise their 2018-19 league championship banner to the rafters of the Fort William Gardens.
Also on tap will be Wisconsin’s Veteran’s Day game on Nov. 11 vs. Thief River Falls while the Norskies host the Lumberjacks in a New Year’s Eve match-up.
There will also be a trio of Family Day matinees on Monday, Feb. 17 in Red Lake, Fort Frances, and Dryden.
Also on the league slate will be the annual SIJHL Showcase, which goes Feb. 4-5, at the Spooner Civic Center where all six league member clubs will compete over the course of the two-day event with a total of six games that will count towards the overall league standings.
The Lakers’ home-opener is slated for Friday, Sept. 20 where they will host the Norskies at 7:30 p.m. at the Ice For Kids Arena.
Fort Frances then will travel to Thief River Falls the following night to complete the home-and-home series at the Ralph Engelstad Arena.
The Lakers will only play three afternoon games this upcoming season, when they compete at the “Showcase” on Feb. 4-5 and when they host the Lumberjacks in a Family Day matinee at 2:30 p.m. on Feb. 17 the Ice For Kids Arena.
