Shooting Stars nab tourney title

The local Shooting Stars Bantam girls’ hockey team went undefeated at the inaugural Westy’s 3-on-3 tournament over the weekend in Dryden.
Competing in the combined Bantam/Midget division, the squad compiled a 4-0 record to finish in top spot.
The first game saw the Shooting Stars cruise to a 9-2 romp over the Brett’s girls’ Midget team.
Tatum Glowasky, Issy Taylor, Shay Mannausau, and Kathryn Fischer each scored twice while Savannah McGinnis notched the other goal.
Goalie Jersey Masson then stopped both Brett’s shooters in the penalty shootout.
Both Shooting Stars’ players also were stoned on their attempts.
The squad then doubled the After School Specials Midget team 10-5 in their second game.
Taylor netted a hat trick in that one while McGinnis and Glowasky each tallied twice to pace the offence.
Fischer, Mannausau, and Martina Woods added singles.
Masson then stopped all three After School Specials’ shooters in the shootout while the Shooting Stars failed to score on both of their attempts.
The Shooting Stars then cruised to an 8-0 shutout of the Timberwolves Bantam squad to head into the championship game undefeated.
Fischer recorded a hat trick in that one while Taylor tallied twice. Woods, Samantha Kelly, and Glowasky added singles.
In the penalty shootout, all seven shooters for the Shooting Stars were stopped while both Timberwolves’ players were shut down by Masson.
The championship game then saw the After School Specials Midget squad getting a chance at redemption on the Shooting Stars.
But it was the locals who came out on top yet again by a slim 5-4 margin.
Taylor and Glowasky each netted a pair of goals while Darbie Mattson added a single in regulation.
The After School Specials scored twice on 11 attempts during the penalty shootout.
Since the Shooting Stars already had won the game, they decided to not take the 18 penalty shots and let the game end as is.
