Shin split sinks Drombolis

Squash is a challenging enough test for any individual on two good legs. Take one of those away and it gets to be a bigger challenge in a big hurry.
Colin Drombolis of Fort Frances had jumped out to a commanding 2-0 lead in his best-of-five consolation final match against Brandon’s Bob Woodmas in the men’s ‘B’ Division of the Winter Club Open in Winnipeg last weekend.
But a shin splint picked up early in the third game proved too much to overcome for Drombolis, who didn’t win another game in falling 3-2.
Drombolis lost his first match of the tourney 3-0 to drop to the consolation side, but then captured 3-0 and 3-2 decisions to earn his way into the final against Woodmas.
In related news, two squash tournaments are coming to the Memorial Sports Centre in the next few weeks, with room still available for competitors.
The annual Fort/Kenora Challenge tentatively is scheduled for Nov. 8 while the ladies’ “Rookie Round-Up” is set for Nov. 15.
Anyone interested can sign up on the sheet hanging on the bulletin board outside the squash courts.
