The Fort Frances Sharks doubled the Dryden Panthers 4-2 in the ‘A’-final Sunday to capture top honours at the annual PeeWee tournament in Emo last weekend.
Garrett Calder led the Sharks with a hat trick while Shaun Kelly netted their other goals.
Derek Lauridsen and Ryan Murray replied for Dryden.
The Fort Frances squad blanked the Dryden Sharks 4-0 in the semi-finals on goals by Justin Larson (two), Shaun Kelly, and Fraser Gibson.
Meanwhile, the Panthers advanced with a narrow 1-0 win over the Emo Predators in the other semi-final–netting the winning goal with just one second left on the clock.
On the ‘B’-side, the Kenora Mustangs overcame a 2-0 deficit with three second-period goals to nip the Norwest Canucks in the final.
Marc Gibson, James Griffin, and Martin Midgard tallied for Kenora while Shawn Kydd and Justin Ross scored for the Canucks.
Kenora advanced to the final after nipping the Dryden Blades 3-2 in overtime in one semi-final. Marc Gibson (two) and Drew Penner scored for the victors while Ian Stephenson and Scott Lund replied for Dryden.
The other semi-final saw Norwest bounce the Fort Frances Lions 3-1 on goals by Kyle DeBungie (two) and Justin Ross. Sean Councillor got the lone Lions goal.
And in the ‘C’-final, the Kentucky Colonels (Fort Frances) dumped Emo Gillons’ 5-1.
Tanner Ward (two), David Pierce, Steve Carlson, and Andrew Lundy paced the Colonels to victory while Craig McTavish netted Gillons’ lone goal.
The Colonels had beaten Keewatin 3-1 in the semi-finals on goals by Steve Carlson (two) and Tanner Ward. Kyle Martin got Keewatin’s only tally.
Meanwhile, Gillons’ squeaked past Kenora Taggs 3-2 on Jason Peters’ overtime goal in the other semi-final.
Emo also got goals from Brian Vargas and Travis Strachan while Brad Crosby and Andrew Daly replied for Taggs.
